We've all had those downright terrible days - failing an exam, having a fight with a loved one, losing your phone, falling sick, a bad day at work...the list goes on and on. It is hard to get out of the slump, but here are 5 tips that might help you get through whatever tough situation you're in - and, hopefully, on to a better day tomorrow!
1. Seek support
Our friends and family are the ones we can rely on the most during tough times. Seek solace from people that you know will provide you with comforting words, or just a shoulder to lean on. Even if none of your closed ones are nearby, just some human contact with acquaintances can provide a bit of momentary distraction.
2. Remember that it's temporary
Perhaps the most important thing to remember when life has dealt us a bad hand, is that whatever we're feeling is temporary. Everything might seem bleak and hopeless at the moment, but the old adage 'time heals all wounds' does hold some truth.
3. Look back on the good times
Remind yourself of all the good things that have happened to you - winning a scholarship, having a fantastic holiday with your family, scoring that job promotion...again, the list goes on and on, and you might start to realise that things aren't so bad after all.
4. Think of the others
Realising that there are probably countless of people out there who had to live through the same thing can make us feel infinitely better. Some might have had it even worse, so knowing that all these people got through their day can give us courage to get through ours too.
5. It all comes down to you
Certainly all the above can help in getting through a rough day, but this all depends on you and how you choose to react to the situation. You can allow yourself to be angry and feel hopeless, or you can try to be brave and deal with the situation with a positive mindset.
