No doubt about it, discovering other cities is an unbeatable experience - but a stressful one too (think traveling for hours before reaching your destination, packing your things or dealing with airport security). So why leave for another place, when there's so much yet to discover in your own town? Because staying at home doesn't necessarily mean you're not going to have a good time. Here are a few tips for spending a day exploring your hometown that will help you see it with fresh eyes!
Book a room
...at that fancy hotel you've always dreamed of staying at since first seeing it. This of course isn't obligatory for an awesome day as a tourist in your own city, but will definitely set the mood - so why not have a splurge?
Bring your camera
You probably know your city like the back of your hand, but have you ever taken your picture in front of all its beautiful sights? Make sure to bring your camera and create some visual memories of your day!
Join a walking tour
When friends from abroad come visit, how much can you really tell them about your hometown's history? In order to polish up your knowledge, join a walking tour - so you can identify more with the place you live at and be able to tell your friends some fun facts next time!
Off the beaten track
We all tend to use the same ways all over again in the cities that we live in. You've heard that this certain district is home to many cute coffee shops? Or have walked by a sight many times saying silently to yourself that one day you'll check it out? Now's the time - take that alley you always wondered where it led to and see where you will end up!
Attend an event
After an exhausting week of work many people prefer to just relax on the weekend, even though there are so many cultural events and happenings going on. Check out Facebook or online event calendars and venture out to that place you've heard so much about. You'll be surprised how simple shifts in your daily routine can change everything.
Watch the sunset
Finish the day by watching the sunset from someplace you haven't gone before. Doesn't matter if you are based in a city that is located in the mountains, on the coast or inland - there's always a nice spot to go, whether rooftops, the top of a hill or a fancy bar on the 20th floor.
