  2. Ashlina Kaposta – The Decorista

    Ashlina Kaposta

Ashlina Kaposta is the founder of The Decorista, as well as an interior designer based in New York City. Her blog showcases her latest accomplishments as a full time fashionista of design, hoping to inspire The Decorista in everyone.

    1.  What advice do you have for someone who is interested in becoming a blogger?

I actually wrote a book about all my tips and tricks, The Decorista, Secrets of Style Blogging Success. My blog is what started my entire career. So my biggest piece of advice is to start a blog… NOW!

    2.  Which blogger has inspired you the most to take your love of interior design online into your own blog?

Jen Ramos from Made by Girl. I read her blog everyday for about a year and it totally encouraged me to start my own.

    3. Are there any bloggers that influence your style?

Fashion bloggers. I love the fashionistas of the world. Other decorators are great, and I love to see what they are doing but I really get inspired by whats hot and fashionable, art, photography, architecture, history etc. These things change how I look at interior spaces.

    4. What is one of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on since becoming an interior design blogger? Do you have a post that reflects this project?

Every project I have ever done has been beyond exciting. I think my very first complete project in the city is my favorite. It was my first big published work from Adore Home Magazine.

    5. Has blogging changed the way you approach design at all?

Absolutely. I have so much inspiration and resource right at my fingertips. Blogging connected me to a world of interior design online. It completely changed everything, from the way I buy to the services I offer.

    6.  When decorating a space, what is one way you help your client choose the direction the design will go?

Start with 5 inspiration images. People don’t always know what they want. But by choosing a few mood board images and coming up with a look, that can help nail down a look and eliminate all the different options.

    7. What are your favorite home decor and style blogs to follow on bloglovin’?

I love  Song of Style, Because I’m addicted and Sea of Shoes. Girls with crazy good style.

    8.  What trends are you seeing now in home decor in terms of color? patterns? style?

Emerald green is the color of the year so I am seeing a lot of that lately. Also, exotic prints and leather!

    9.  How did you come up with the name of your blog?

So, one day my cousin said to me “you are like the decorator version of a fashionista.” AND BAM! It hit us, then we both yelled “the decorista!” It was kismet.

    10. Is there anything we can we expect from you in 2013 that will be new and exciting?

So many things! A new website, an update on my blog, a new art project, a new book and a new apartment!

    11. Tell us one thing that your readers would never know about you.

    I’m a pescatarian.

  3. Sarah Vickers – Classy Girls Wear Pearls

    Sara Vickers

Sarah Vickers has lived in the charming, oceanside state of Rhode Island her entire life.  She has traversed the East Coast to turn moments into stories. In January of 2012 she decided to share her personal experiences, fashion, and friends with the entire world with Classy Girls Wear Pearls

    1.What bloggers do you follow?

I follow none routinely and find myself catching up on a blog the same way I download an entire TV series, by viewing it all in one shot. Atlantic Pacific is one of my favorite blogs. I recall spending an entire Saturday night going through from start to finish whilst snacking on a bowl of kettle corn.

    2. Where do you get your style inspiration from?

My style is a mix of vintage finds, classic staples, and impulse buys which happen all too often whenever I step into a J.Crew. I like to keep my personal style classic and gather inspiration from current trends, vintage magazines, and New England living.

    3. How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Classy Girls Wear Bows was already taken :)

    Mint Green Jacket

    4. What advice do you have for people who are looking to start their own blogs?

Simply to start. There are people I know who would love to start blogging but sit on ideas rather than take action because they are constantly of the opinion that what they have to offer isn’t perfect or interesting enough. Starting a blog is half the battle. Once you begin it is then having the discipline to keep posting and introducing new content. You have to post for your own personal enjoyment.

    5. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

My entire life I’ve enjoyed scrap-booking memories favorite outfits, vacations/experiences and I’ve found Classy Girls Wear Pearls offers me an opportunity to share that which I love so much with others who have a similar appreciation.

    6. What are a few wardrobe staples that any preppy girl (or boy) should have in their closet?

A well worn blue button down, Fair Isle sweater, a pair of oxfords, and plenty of wooden hangers to complete a wardrobe that lasts a lifetime.

    7. Your blog offers readers a view into New England life, what are some of your favorite things about living in New England?

New England is perfect. I love the traditions, historic architecture, changing seasons, and over all landscape. Living in RI I’m surrounded by the ocean, but then I can drive a couple of hours North and be in the mountains. It’s quite ideal.

    Classy Guys & Girls

    8. Winters in New England are legendarily cold, so what’s your favorite piece of cold weather apparel?

A boyfriend holding me close in a cozy cashmere sweater.

    9. What are some pieces in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

My favorite pair of jeans, an old rag wool sweater with suede elbow patches, and my grey bow heels from Manolo Blahnik.

    10. In your opinion what makes a girl “classy”?

Keeping your standards high and seizing each day as an opportunity to improve and grow. We all have the ability to be the best version of ourselves.

    11. If you had an unlimited shopping budget, what are some pieces you would splurge on?

Well I suppose a pair of Oscar De La Renta heels for every girl on Earth.

  4. Danielle Bernstein – WeWoreWhat

Danielle, a New York City native, is the founder and blogger behind WeWoreWhat. She is also a freelance stylist, writer, and consultant perfectly blending modern and vintage fashions.

    1.    Why did you decide to become a fashion blogger?

I started my blog about 15 months ago when I transferred to attend school at FIT. I noticed all the amazing style around campus and began photographing street style. A few months in was my first fashion week as media, which is when I realized my personal style was resonating with followers and other photographers. Now I photograph my personal style – with the hopes of providing a daily look book of outfit inspiration for my readers.

    2.    What tips do you have for girls who are still in school, but that would like to break into fashion or fashion blogging?

Tips for balancing school / blogging – the key to keeping up in school while growing your career as a fashion blogger is to find time for both, and more importantly designate certain days (or hours) to your blog/school. There should definitely be a separation and you definitely should not be blogging while in class (something I’m guilty of myself).

    3.    Which bloggers do you look to for style inspiration?

I mostly look to editors and the runways for fashion influence, but I also follow many European and Scandinavian bloggers.

    4.    Which blogs do you follow on bloglovin’?

I follow blogs like BlueIsInFashionThisYear and StyleCopyCat because they mostly post pictures of other bloggers according to trend and what people in the industry are wearing. I also follow my friends and the top top bloggers to keep updated with what everyone is up to!

     5.    If you were not a fashion blogger – what do you see yourself doing?

Besides blogging, I have a passion for styling and event hosting. I would love to get more into video content and TV perhaps. Hosting my own fashion series would be a dream job.

    6.    What has been one of your most memorable experiences as a fashion blogger?

One of my most memorable experiences was my trip to Stockholm Sweden this past summer for fashion week – it was incredible to say the least.

    7.    Any big things coming from We Wore What to look out for?

Big things is an understatement – I have so many awesome projects in the works, especially one that I can’t discuss just yet. Let’s just say your feet will be happy…

    8.    You live in NYC – what are some of your favorite NYC hang-out spots?

Everyman Espresso for coffee, Mercer Kitchen for dinner, Le Bain and The Jane for a night out, East Village vintage stores for shopping.. there’s too many to name!

    9.    Tell us 3 things that your readers don’t know about you?

I dance hip-hop and used to teach it, I love sports, and have a totally dorky weird side to me that only my best friends get to see.

    10.  Do you plan out your outfits or do you assemble your key look on the fly?

Sometimes I plan out outfits if I just got something new or have a look in mind – but most times it’s on the fly and based on my mood that day!

  5. Natalie Suarez – Natalie Off-Duty

    1. Any advice for a girl  who wants to start their own fashion blog?

Just be true to yourself, and go with what you love. I created my blog for creative liberation…to inspire and be inspired every single day.  I love seeing a girl’s blog that is so unique, and shows so much of the girl’s personality. People who can turn what they love…into something beautiful and positive, whether it be a photo or work of art, make blogging such a fantastic world.

    2. Which bloggers inspire your own style?

My sister, Dylana Suarez of Color Me Nana is actually my main inspiration. She is the one who inspired me to even begin a blog in the first place!  We always love the same pieces and have very similar aesthetic. We’re both very rock n’roll, yet classic, with a touch of California cool and quirkiness.  She really has the best eye I know.  I love her!

    3. Who are your favorite fashion bloggers? Which blogs do you recommend following on Bloglovin?

To instantly be inspired, I go to Studded Hearts every morning. The editorials and photography always inspire. Other bloggers I love are Zanita, Amlul, Le Blog de Betty, as well as Cali Vintage. I love visiting a blog from every part of the world. It’s fascinating!

    4. You’re a big fan of vintage, what has been your favorite purchase?

    "DKNY"

Most of my favorite pieces are things that I scored either at a Santa Monica estate sale in LA, or at Village Style here in NYC. My favorite piece right now may be my green “Debbie” wool baseball jacket. It’s just such a great fit, and I love throwing it over everything. Somehow it just completes every look I have.

    5. Do you have an all time favorite blog post of yours you’d like to share? Why was this your favorite blog post?

It’s hard to choose. Snowflakes On My Sweater was a good one. I was in the middle of shooting for my latest DKNY Fragrances campaign, and it started snowing! It was so so beautiful! The photographer snapped these images in between takes and sent them to me. They really captured that cold afternoon perfectly.

It was hard to decide between that post and Modern Vice x Cloak & Dagger Factory Party 2012.  These were polaroids from my boyfriend’s huge Modern Vice shoe factory party. We presented all our latest shoe designs, along with my first NYC musical performance!

    6. What is your secret style weapon?

A hat. I can be wearing something just so so simple, and I’ll throw a hat on, and instantly feel so good! I love an amazing vintage hat or slouchy beanie.

    7. Since you started blogging what has been some memorable experiences?

With my blog and work, I have been able to travel to so many different corners of the world I’ve only dreamt of. From Barbados, to Morocco, to London and Paris, to Israel, and Copenhagen.  I am so thankful. I have thousands of photos that I know I’ll just freak out over when I’m an old woman, looking back at this time.

    8. What’s one item you’re saving up to buy?

I’m really saving up to buy a new Martin guitar. I’m always staring, and asking questions to my musician friends about their Martins. I am dying for a new one! One I can keep for the rest of my life.

    "In London"

    9. How did you come up with the name for your blog?

My friends would say I was so “model off duty” when I was in high school, because I was the only girl during the school [who] would have to take off  and go to shoots. The “model off duty” style is very effortless, thrown together, and messy.  ”Natalie Off Duty” just came to me one day in my bedroom, the day I made my first post, and it stuck.

    10. Tell us something your blog followers would be surprised to know about you?

Nobody really knows my ethnic background. I’m half Chinese and 1/4 Spanish, and 1/4 Mexican. My friends would come over and think I was adopted when they saw my parents.

  9. Kirsten Nunez: Studs and Pearls

    Kirsten Nunez Studs and Pearls
    -

Kirsten Nunez is a New Yorker and DIY fashion blogger at Studs and Pearls. From sewing to painting, she has been creating things her entire life. Kirsten is currently working on publishing her first DIY fashion book.

    1) How did you get started doing DIY fashion? And how do you think it’s shaped your personal style?

I’ve been making and creating things for as long as I can remember. When I was very young, I vividly recall making sleeping bags for dolls and jewelry from pipe cleaners. Growing up, I would always be making something. I loved going to art class. By the time I reached high school and (especially) college, my personal style was evolving, which soon crossed paths with my love for creating.

I started a jewelry business out of my dorm room, taught myself how to sew, and began reconstructing thrifted clothes on my college student budget. After I graduated college, I decided to start Studs and Pearls to share all of my ideas. Even if the blog didn’t exist, DIY fashion is something I would still be doing regardless. It’s helped evolve my personal style into something that is representative of myself, what I love and who I am as a person.

    2) What are some tools/materials that every DIYer should have handy?

The basic DIY essentials are a good pair of scissors, sewing needle and thread, sewing pins, measuring tape, strong craft glue such as E6000, a hot glue gun, jewelry pliers, safety pins and different types of chain.

    3) What’s your favorite medium to work with?

Anything that’s vintage and has some history to it…I love the process of giving new life to something old. Lace and leather are some of my favorite fabrics, and acrylic paints are always fun to integrate into fashion.

    4) Where do you draw your inspiration from for your projects?

I draw inspiration from so many places – art, photography, nature, magazines, designer pieces, the runway, thrift shops, traveling and sometimes even food. My favorite projects are usually inspired by a combination of these things. I always say that I love to find inspiration in unexpected places, because those result in the most unique ideas.

    5) What advice would you give to someone who wants to start DIYing their own accessories?

Don’t be afraid of messing up or making a mistake. This is exactly what will help you learn! If you’re nervous about starting a new technique or project, try it out on thrifted pieces or old clothes. It’s totally okay to backtrack or start over. I would also recommend reading the entire tutorial before actually starting; this will help you get the feel and idea of what you’re about to do. Work at your own pace and take your time.

    -
    6) What are your favorite brands right now? What are your favorite brands to DIY?

Alexander Wang, Pamela Love, Club Monaco and Rebecca Taylor are some of my favorite brands/designers. As for brands that I like to DIY, there aren’t any in particular. I’m open to gathering DIY inspiration from any and all brands and designers.

    7) Who are your favorite fashion bloggers? Which blogs do you recommend following on Bloglovin?

Keiko Lynn, Rumi Neely, and Andy are some of my top favorites. I’d recommend following all of them on Bloglovin!

    8) How do you combat “DIYer’s block”?

When I’m really stuck on a project, I usually step back and leave it alone for a while. I’ve learned that creativity can’t be forced, and the best results come from when it happens naturally. There have been instances where I never complete a project, but suddenly figure out a way to finish or re-use it days, months or even years later.

    9) What are three things in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

My favorite pair of black skinny jeans (matches with EVERYTHING), my DIY spiked Juicy Couture trench coat, and my favorite bright turquoise blazer.
